Your favorite creepy animatronics return in ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s 2’ that is likely to satisfy diehard fans.
I was a huge fan of the first movie, before that I had only a passing knowledge of FNAF. After watching the first movie, I wanted more and immersed myself in YouTube videos learning about the lore.
So going in to the 2nd movie I was hyped. The first movie was easy to follow for newbs and easily introduced the concept and characters. The 2nd movie doesn’t necessarily take off running but more so starting with a new viewpoint character in Vanessa. In fact, most of this movie is in Vanessa’s point of view, which was not what I was expecting. She is dealing with the fallout of the reveal about her father William Afton and trying to come to terms with her past.

Josh Hutcherson’s character Mike Schmidt really takes a back seat in this movie. To be fair, he worked through a lot of his trauma in the first movie and he is now working on making sure his sister Abby is well taken care of. I actually felt like he is the only character that significantly grew from the first movie, he’s actually a pretty good parent to Abby.

Abby is happier in this movie but she misses her toy animatronic possessed friends. That is what sort of catapults Mike and Abby’s roles in the movie.

If you were expecting to see a lot of Matthew Lillard, Skeet Ulrich, or McKenna Grace in this movie, don’t count on it. I feel like they were heavily marketed but they are barely in it. I think Skeet Ulrich might actually have more lines than Lillard.

I did feel like I was missing a lot of points to this movie that I would have noticed if I was a huge FNAF fan. There were many times the audience were cheering, clapping, and laughing, but I had no idea why. It’s was peppered pretty well throughout the movie, but at least in my theater I felt left out for some parts.

I was super engaged in the movie and it was building, building, and building then we get to the climax, and I’m right there with it……and drop. It wasn’t bad but I just wasn’t expecting it. It will make more sense when you see it. There is one end credits scene so make sure you stay for that. There is also some audio at the end you will want to hear.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie and give it a solid B+. I had fun, was following the movie mostly, and didn’t really find myself bored or asking myself how much time is left. I did enjoy the first movie more but this one I feel is a solid watch. I think it’s worth seeing in theaters for the fan experience. I do feel this movie will definitely divide long time fans squarely down the middle.
