The final season of The Boys received mixed reactions. Critics mostly praised the season for its bold visuals, high-stakes battles, and Antony Starr’s chilling performance as Homelander, giving it a 97 percent “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, some reviewers criticized the pacing and lack of character development, and fans on social media were often disappointed, feeling the season didn’t quite match the show’s previous intensity.

Billy Butcher, played brilliantly by Karl Urban, was a standout, bringing a much-needed emotional anchor to the chaos. But the Gen V cast, despite all the hype, was criminally underutilized. Marie, who was teased as a universe-shaking powerhouse, got sidelined. They could have canceled Gen V altogether and just used that momentum to build Marie into one of the most menacing figures in the entire franchise, but instead, we got a detour into Soldier Boy’s arc, which, frankly, felt like a detour off a cliff.

So, looking at the final season as a whole, it’s a mixed bag. The acting, especially from Starr and Urban, was phenomenal, and the high-stakes action kept us hooked. But the plot faltered, failing to give us a truly satisfying arc. It ranks as one of the weaker seasons of The Boys, and while the finale offered some closure, it didn’t quite hit that power punch we’ve come to expect.
