The 3rd Colleen Hoover book turned to movie in 6 months hits theaters this week, which is sure to bring out droves of Women Readers, BookTokers, and Romance Novel Enthusiasts.
First off, there was more people at my particular press screening of ‘Reminders Of Him’ than ‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ and possibly even ‘Wicked: For Good’, and there was a lot of people trying to get into those screenings.
Now I had seen the last Colleen Hoover movie, It Ends With Us with Blake Lively, which was a journey, but my wife let me know this storyline was not as crazy as that one, but way more emotional.

The movie stars Maika Monroe as Kenna Rowan, a widower returning home just released from prison due to causing the death of her boyfriend Scotty, trying to meet their 5 year old daughter Diem. You are immediately suspicious of Kenna as is most of the people in the movie.

We quickly meet Tyriq Withers, who plays Ledger Ward, who was Scotty’s best friend and now pseudo uncle to Kenna and Scotty’s daughter, who lives across the street with Scotty’s parents that take care of Diem Kenna looking for a job eventually wanders into Ledger’s Bar and the movie takes off.

Maika Monroe is excellent in this movie and definitely carries the load in the film. She delivers a balanced performance, which makes more sense as the movie goes on, and makes you feel what she is feeling. Tyriq Withers does well playing opposite her but it’s clear that Maika leads him in their performances.

We also have Lauren Graham and Rudy Pankow, who plays Scotty parents that are taking care of Diem, and man you don’t know whether to be mad at them or be on their side. Their parts are small but they definitely deliver on some of the most heartbreaking scenes in the movie.

I’m telling you now, if you’re like myself and have a toddler daughter, you’re going to tear up, guaranteed. Very hard not to lose it in this movie and yet so easy to connect with what Kenna is feeling as a parent.
Lainey Wilson is in this movie, blink and you’ll miss her. Also there is a young actress named Monika Myers in this movie that is an absolute scene stealer and delivers the comedic breaks perfectly, bravo to her.

This is a great movie to take your wife, girlfriend, sister, mother, friend, or especially a girls night out. I’m pretty sure there were 5 book clubs there and it was clear these women were having a great time at this movie. My wife said she read the book and she felt the movie was just as good as the book, she also said she was more emotional watching the movie than reading the book. Apparently the book made a lot of it’s readers cry.

Overall, I give the movie a solid B. There is way more to enjoy in this movie than not, my wife enjoyed it, ended up being a good date night movie.
